Deceived On Purpose
With all the excitement over Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Life" and church program, "40 Days of Purpose", I have long been concerned that no one has really taken a hard look at what it's about. Even though there are some good ideas in them, I felt something was amiss.
After reading Warren Smith's Deceived on Purpose, I now understand why I was concerned. Mr. Smith has written a well-researched book that should raise very serious concerns, not only about the Purpose-Driven movement, but about certain new Bible translations as well as the kinds of people this movement is attracting and getting approval from.
I read the book with my usual analytical skepticism and came away feeling like I had been shaken awake. The New Age Movement, which was decried by Christians in the 1980's, is barely mentioned as a concern among believers and pastors anymore. This excellent and crucial book shows in great detail that not only has the New Age movement survived, but it is thriving and beginning to influence the church in a huge way - including through Rick Warren's movement, no matter how sincere or unknowing he may be.
Mr. Smith has written a book that is not a personal attack on people but a concise analysis of a movement that is soaked through and through with New Age concepts and people who New Age leaders are very comfortable associating with.
I urge you to get this book.
